New Bag Workshop

This is the bag that I designed for my next workshop. 

The workshop will be held on

Saturday 22nd June 2013 

from 10.30am until 4.30pm

at St Columb's Parish Hall, Chapel Road, Derry.

 

I made my bag with La Belle Fleur by  French General 

{always a favourite}.

French General Cushions

Firstly, I must thank my young brother for coming to my aid.  I wasn't able to upload my photos on the blog and so he changed me over to a new browser so now I'm up and running again.  Thanks Stephen.

For a long time, I have meant to make new cushions for my home from the remainder of the French General fabric that I used for my Stepping Stones quilt. 

So, I finally finished them before Christmas and was very pleased with how they turned out.

They're a nice mixture of brown, red, beige and cream.  The backs of the cushions are French General fabric too.  Well, it is one of my favourites.

 As I'm already talking of things French, I thought that I would show you some more of my photographs of Paris. I would highly recommend the open top bus tours and we were able to get off and on whenever we to explore.  It also gives a good vantage point for taking photographs.

The doors on this imposing building were quite amazing.

Whilst we were queueing to get into the cathedral, I couldn't take my eyes off the hinges on the doors.

Intricate leaves, birds and scrolls

The metalwork was just so beautiful and delicate looking.  All I could think of was trying to quilt or applique something like this.  Amazing! Very inspiring.

We found the prettiest sweet shop ever.  It is called La Cure Gourmande and it is impossible to walk into it without wanting to buy everything before you leave.

There were a few different designs for the metro signs.  Maybe if you lived there you wouldn't notice things like this anymore but I found everything very beautiful.  Hopefully I will be able to return to Paris again.

I could go on forever but that wouldn't be fair on you.  So I'll call it a night.

Jelly Roll Quilt

I decided for my class in January to make a jelly roll quilt as lots of the girls were asking what to do with the rolls of fabric.  I already had the book 'Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts' by Pam & Nicky Lintott, so I decided to make the one called Stepping Stones from lots of different French General fabrics that I had collected.

Everyone who enrols for my class will get their own copy of the book.  The pattern was very easy to follow and in fact this quilt came in two sizes.  The larger size comes with a pieced border but I chose this one as it was a handier size for class.

It just amazes me how the colour of something can look so different indoors and outdoors because of the light conditions. 

I'm looking forward to this class in January.

 By the way, apologies for the fonts in my last post.  They appeared to have a life of their own and apparently this is not a new problem but I could not find any immediate solution.

Busy Busy Busy

I know this is only the end of October but I am already figuring out what I am going to teach next term in January.  I am in the process of making a jelly roll quilt from the book "Layer Cake, Jelly Roll & Charm Quilts". 

French General

Beautiful fabrics

I am using French General fabric that I have been collecting for a while.  Progress isn't as fast as I would like though because things are just so busy at the moment.  But I wouldn't have it any other way.  I am thinking of offering this quilt as my Wednesday class and the book would be included in the price.  Everyone would then go home with their own copy of the book and the opportunity to make something else from it themselves.   

I ordered my first business cards too.  I uploaded photographs of some of my own quilts so I can't wait to see how they turn out.  I'm also getting ready for a workshop in Dublin in a couple of weeks and a craft fair.  So I'm looking forward to both of those.

The Festival of Quilts

I'm finishing off my packing to head off to the Festival of Quilts for three glorious days with my friends Ann and Maeve.  This will be my third year to go and I can't wait! 

We always make a new bag to take with us and this year mine is made from French General fabrics.  One side is Lumiere de Noel and the other is La Petite Ecole.  The pattern is by Penny Sturges.
